Attitude shirts that flash witty remarks have become quite popular in the market lately. The art of self expression seems to have gone on mass production and found itself splashed all over the shirts, bags and what-not of many youngsters all over the metro- self expression now claims a newly-acquired recognition.

However, this is no new thing. In fact, just last year, one of the pioneers of style, individuality and eccentricity celebrated a hundred years of that exact same tradition. 2008 was Converse Century. This trend over artwork and smart messages splashed all over articles of clothing and accessories is a continuing tradition in the millions and millions of Converse footwear spread all over the world, for the past hundred years.

The first claim to fame from this legendary brand was during the 1920’s even before the NBA; tied up with the reputation of the Harlem Renaissance, a team of “colored professionals” who were the most successful in that era. Most of the players during this time had Converse as the footwear of choice.

With the revolution and evolution of style, Converse moved into more colorful and creative incarnations. During the 50’s, psychedelic designs and colors graced the face of the popular casual footwear. It also became the unofficial feet-cover of punk, rock and acid bands of the time.

The evolution continued up to this point when art expression, lettering, drawings and other graffiti may be seen, not just on the walls but in the shoes of every other youngster you meet on the street.
