A move up on the corporate ladder normally springs forth a need to power dress; to”dress up to the nines” as the need obviously dictates. However, a thin line exists between dressing up to look the part of a senior partner and dressing up to look the part of a senior (period).

To put it simply, when one tries to dress up to try to get a more dignified look, a great danger exists for one to dress up and mistakenly make himself look gray and unapproachable, not to mention older than his actual age.

So what is there to do?

Start with colors. Go beyond the usual boring colors of brown, tan, dark blue, black and white; this doesn’t mean you should try and make neon colored suits work for you. Just go with friendly pastel colors like pale yellow, pink or green. Women may also go for combinations of bright red or bright yellow with black. The point is, try not to look dull.

Try out new styles and designs. Don’t act as if you have to follow strict uniform attire. Women may move freely from different styles and cuts of skirts and slacks. As long as they all follow the universal rules on modesty and corporate fashion, of course.
