Flax, also known as common flax or linseed is domestic to the regions of the eastern Mediterranean to India. Flax is grown for its omega 3 flax seed and its fibers. Other parts of the plant are used in making dye, fabric, medicines, fishing net, and soaps. It is also grown as ornamental plant in gardens because of its pale blue flowers with five petals.

Flax seeds come in two varieties – brown and yellow or golden. Most of its types have the same nutritional values and equal amounts of omega 3 fatty acids except or the yellow flax which is very low in omega 3.

Although the first recorded use of flax seed for cooking was way back in the ancient Mesopotamia, it has been better known as ingredient in paints, fiber and cattle feed until now that people starts to realize the benefits of flax for the human body.

It is really easy to incorporate the use of flax in our daily diet. A tablespoon of flax seeds, combined with three tablespoons of water can serve a substitute for egg. Also, it can be mixed with oatmeal, yogurt, pasta and many more.

Since milled flax seeds are chemically stable and can be stored at least four months at room temperature, flax seed users prefer to buy wholesale flaxseed. It can be stored for that long without a change in smell, taste or marks of rancidity.

It’s hard to keep fit and stay well nowadays. Everything is instant, even the food you eat!
There are instant coffee mixes that you just drink on the go or when you don’t have the luxury of time to measure spoonfuls of coffee, cream, and sugar anymore. Instant noodles where you just add hot water on, or instant rice meals that come in plastic containers that you just pop on the microwave to heat and voila! You get yourself an instant meal!

Given that these foods are instant mean they went through different levels of processing and within each level, get more and more synthesized as it nears the end-product, making it lesser and lesser healthy. Some will argue that synthesized foods are carcinogenic. And who would want to eat something that may cause you a bigger trouble?

Staying fit and healthy may entail you to be wiser in picking the right food to nourish your body with. Don’t put junk in your system, refrain from eating chips, carbonated drinks and overly processed foods. Instead, eat a ton of fruits and veggies. They’re full of disease-fighting, immunity-boosting vitamins and phyto-chemicals.

Set an example to your children. Teach them the benefits of these healthy foods as early as infancy!

The New Year brings in a whole lot more than a brand new set of 365 days to enjoy. It spurns a lot of change in people from the less obvious and often most easily forgotten, New Year’s resolutions to the more evident and noticeable new hair styles and facial care regimen.

Not only that, for the firm believers and followers of Chinese traditions such as Feng Shui, a considerable change in fashion is a welcome thing. This may start accessories, what with the numerous charms and trinkets of jade and other precious stones that they believe to be lures for luck and other good graces. Some even change their wallets and purses into the lucky colors the stars have spoken of.

Still on the topic of colors and Chinese Astrology, the revamp in wardrobe is undoubtedly influenced by these lucky colors. People would opt to go around sporting clothes in the same color that is predicted to be their lucky colors. For instance, those born in the Year of the Ox have red as their ‘new’ favorite color this year. Blue is the lucky color for those born in the Year of the Pig.

Yet another obvious change in fashion at the start of this year is the sudden proliferation of clothing, bags, towels, and countless other what-have-you’s that have designs and themes on cows and oxen. These are most popular for children’s fashion, of course.

Casual Classics

No matter how much fashion changes, there are styles and fashion combinations that will never get old or go out of style. If you’re curious as to what clothes would look normal enough on the casual setting any time from the past until today and on to the future, get a load of this:

Casual Classics for Men:

The faded blue jeans and plain t-shirt and sneakers never fail to pass the mark for casual comfort. This is also a long-known get-up that never went out of style… I doubt it ever will. Complement the look with a light jacket if the temperature gets a little cold and you’re good to go for a walk down the street, down to the mall or for simply hanging out with your friends. Another casual classic is the collared shirt paired with light slacks or khakis and leather thongs.

Casual Classics for Women:

The casual classic for women is very similar with the men’s. The plain t-shirt with jeans always works, especially if the top is a slim fit. The styles of footwear that would never go out of style for informal wear are sneakers, clogs or strappy sandals. A different laid-back attire for women that never goes out of style is the blouse-skirt get-up. The most typical style for this is the form-fitting denim skirt that goes until an inch above the knee. Rubber shoes, tennis shoes or strappy sandals look good with the combination.

As can be expected, slight variations of this casual get-up are made to adjust with whatever weather is current.

Dress Younger

A move up on the corporate ladder normally springs forth a need to power dress; to”dress up to the nines” as the need obviously dictates. However, a thin line exists between dressing up to look the part of a senior partner and dressing up to look the part of a senior (period).

To put it simply, when one tries to dress up to try to get a more dignified look, a great danger exists for one to dress up and mistakenly make himself look gray and unapproachable, not to mention older than his actual age.

So what is there to do?

Start with colors. Go beyond the usual boring colors of brown, tan, dark blue, black and white; this doesn’t mean you should try and make neon colored suits work for you. Just go with friendly pastel colors like pale yellow, pink or green. Women may also go for combinations of bright red or bright yellow with black. The point is, try not to look dull.

Try out new styles and designs. Don’t act as if you have to follow strict uniform attire. Women may move freely from different styles and cuts of skirts and slacks. As long as they all follow the universal rules on modesty and corporate fashion, of course.

Accessorize. Jazz up your get-up with subtle yet elegant accents.
